Breaking down “Dimensions (in fact and human knowledge)”
This non-heavenly realm combines two aspects: in fact (scientific, observational) and human knowledge (traditions, interpretation). See glossary: Dimensions (in fact) and Dimensions (human knowledge).
In many traditions and in this app, dimensions and realms can refer to the same idea: layers or levels of reality (e.g. the ten heavens, Earth, other attested spaces). Sometimes “dimension” is used in a more scientific or observational sense, while “realm” often carries a cosmological or tradition-based meaning. This page offers a place to interpret the differences and correlations and to link to references.
In fact
Dimensions (in fact) — scientific, observational, or structural dimensions:
- 3+1 spacetime — The four dimensions of classical physics (three spatial, one temporal).
- Extra dimensions — Theoretical dimensions in string theory, Kaluza–Klein, multiverse hypotheses.
- Scales of observation — Quantum, cosmological, or phenomenological scales that frame what we observe.
- Heavenly realms (1–10): Can be mapped to levels of observation or access (e.g. permission levels in the app). Scientific analogues might include scales of observation or theoretical extra dimensions.
Users can interpret these correlations in their own way; the app does not impose a single scientific or theological view.
Human knowledge
Dimensions (human knowledge) — layers of reality as understood in tradition and experience:
- Cosmological layers — Biblical and other traditions (ten heavens, Sheol, etc.); named realms from scripture and myth.
- Cross-cultural concepts — Alternate realms, liminal spaces, or other attested layers from human knowledge.
- Phenomenological or experiential — Dimensions as reported or interpreted in experience, encounter, or revelation.
- Non-heavenly realms: Earth (realm 0), Hell/Sheol — not a sub-level of any heaven, but the underworld below Earth; other documented realms, and this “Dimensions” bucket. See Realm: Dimensions.
Dimension hierarchy (by tradition)
Glossary: Dimension hierarchy — Human knowledge models dimensions as ascending layers; different traditions use different counts and names. Below: hierarchy from the database.

How to interpret the differences
You can use this section to decide how you want to interpret dimensions vs realms:
- Same thing: Treat “dimension” and “realm” as interchangeable (e.g. the ten heavens are ten dimensions of the same cosmology).
- Realm = tradition, dimension = structure: Realms are named layers from tradition (Shamayim, Mathey, etc.); dimensions are the structural or observational axes (level, permission, access).
- Scientific vs cosmological: “Dimensions” might mean physical or mathematical dimensions; “realms” might mean the attested cosmological layers. Both can coexist in one model.
