Realms and dimensions — two different kinds of thing

This app treats realms and dimensions as two different kinds of thing, and publishes the correspondences between them rather than assuming them. Here is the test it uses, the three reasons the two cannot simply be merged, and the map itself.

The test

The discriminator is not imposed on the data — it is already in it. Every realm record carries PermissionLevel and PrimaryInhabitants. Every dimension record leaves both empty. The schema had worked this out before the pages did.

Why they cannot simply be merged

The tempting move is one stack of levels with each tradition naming its own rungs — “Seventh Heaven”, “Netzach” and “7th dimension” as three words for one position. Three hard facts block it:

1. The numbering runs in opposite directions

In the ten-heaven model, 1 is nearest Earth and 10 is the ultimate — you ascend. In Kabbalah, Keter (1) is the crown, nearest the infinite, and Malkhut (10) is Kingdom, the manifest world — you descend. The two ladders are numbered from opposite ends.

So listing them as parallel columns of 1–10, which is what the app has been doing, silently asserts that Heaven 1 (Shamayim, the atmosphere) corresponds to Keter (the crown) and that Heaven 10 corresponds to Malkhut. That is exactly backwards. Any honest mapping has to invert one of them — and once you are inverting a scheme to make it fit, you are no longer looking at the same thing under two names.

2. The New Age twelve changes kind halfway up

Levels 1–3 of that scheme are literal geometry — line, plane, volume. Level 4 is time. Levels 5–12 are states of consciousness or density. Nothing about “the 3rd dimension” in that scheme is a place; it is the property of having three spatial axes, which is true of Earth, of Araboth and of a shoebox alike.

Mapping “3rd dimension” onto Third Heaven / Paradise because both are numbered three is a coincidence of ordinals and nothing else.

3. It would break the permission model

Every realm in this app carries an entry tier — the clearance a being needs to cross that gate. You cannot give Keter an entry permission, because it is not a gate. It is an attribute of the divine. The moment dimensions enter the realm ladder, either the tier column becomes meaningless or the sefirot get assigned clearances no source has ever given them.

The correspondence map

Ten heavens down the side; what each other scheme puts at that position; and — the column that matters — whether anyone actually attests the correspondence. Standings follow the convention used on Other documented realms and Named Giants: they say what kind of claim a thing is, not whether it is true.

The New Age column is empty on purpose, in all ten rows. That is the finding, not an omission — no source maps that scheme onto the heavens, and its lower levels are geometry rather than location. An empty cell that says so is more use than a filled one that does not.

Where correspondence is genuinely attested

Short list, and worth having precisely because it is short:

• Third heaven = paradise. 2 Corinthians 12:2–4 — Paul is caught up to “the third heaven” and, in the next breath, “into paradise.” The text equates them itself. This is the only correspondence in the app that scripture states outright.
• Ten heavens. 2 Enoch carries a ten-heaven ascent, which is the scheme this app follows. Most of the tradition runs on seven.
• Seven heavens. The Talmud (Chagigah 12b) names seven — Vilon, Rakia, Shechakim, Zevul, Ma’on, Machon, Aravot. The Qur’an has seven (2:29; 67:3). The Hekhalot literature has seven palaces. Three independent traditions converge on seven; this app runs on ten. That is a real divergence and is flagged below rather than smoothed over.
• Planetary spheres. Dante’s Paradiso gives seven planetary heavens plus the Fixed Stars, the Primum Mobile and the Empyrean — a ten-level scheme, which is why it maps onto this app’s ladder more cleanly than anything else in the table.
• Fifth heaven = the Watchers. 2 Enoch 18. Carried by this app on Mathey and the Grigori page.

What this app does with all of it

1. Realms are the place model. Earth (0), the ten heavens (1–10), Hell (−1), and the prisons, chambers and stores grouped under Other documented realms. These have gates, tiers and inhabitants.
2. Dimensions are a lens, not a realm. The Dimensions page is a way of describing reality — scientific on one side, traditional on the other. It is no longer counted in the realm ladder.
3. Correspondences are published, never assumed, and each carries a standing. Where none is attested, the cell stays empty and says why.

Open, and flagged rather than resolved

1. Seven or ten? The Talmud, the Qur’an and the Hekhalot palaces all say seven; 2 Enoch says ten. This app runs on ten and should say so more loudly than it currently does.
2. The app’s heaven order is not the Talmud’s. Chagigah 12b puts Zevul fourth and Machon sixth; this app has Machenon fourth and Zebul sixth. Whichever is preferred, the two are not the same list in the same order, and no page currently mentions it.
3. Which direction is Kabbalah? Inverting the sefirot to fit the heavens is defensible and is what the table above does. It is still an editorial act, and a reader is entitled to reject it.
4. Is “Other documented realms” a realm at all? It is a container of realms holding a level of its own (−2). The same category question this page just settled for Dimensions applies to it, and has not been settled.
5. Do the scientific dimensions belong on the same page as the traditional ones? 3+1 spacetime and “the 5th dimension” as a state of consciousness are not the same kind of claim, and the page currently carries both under one heading.
