Hierarchy & association: Tier 2 (1=Angelic, 2=Fallen, 3=Hybrid, 4=Giant lineage, 5=Human, 6=Other) · Genetic human link: angelic · Angel association: fallen.
Fallen angels who descended at Mount Hermon (1 Enoch); parent order to Nephilim. In this app they appear under the Fallen Angels choir. The Fifth Heaven (Mathey) is associated with Watcher angels in tradition. Alias names across sources (e.g. Semjaza / Shemihaza) are documented on each angel detail and in the Glossary. The races held to descend from them are listed on All races — 7 races of giants.
Footnote: are all Watchers fallen angels?
No. “Watcher” (Aramaic ʿir, Greek egrēgoroi, “wakeful one”) is an office — sleepless attentiveness — not a moral status. It says nothing about whether the being holding it stayed faithful.
- Daniel 4:13, 17, 23 — the only use of the term in the Hebrew Bible, and the being is “a watcher and a holy one” delivering God’s decree. Not fallen.
- 1 Enoch 12:2–4 — Enoch is sent to the Watchers “who have left the high heaven”. The qualifier only makes sense because others did not leave it.
- Jubilees 4:15 — the Watchers were sent to teach humanity righteousness. The office came first; the fall came later.
- 1 Enoch 39:12–13; 61:12; 71:7 — “those who sleep not” at the throne hold the same wakeful office, faithfully.
Grigori is the narrower term: in 2 Enoch 18 it names the fifth-heaven group tied to the Mount Hermon descent. So every Grigori of that descent is a fallen angel, but not every Watcher is a Grigori.
This app has no separate tag for holy Watchers, so any count of “Watchers” here means the fallen ones only. Full glossary entry.
