The -im is the ordinary Hebrew masculine plural, the same ending as on Seraphim and Cherubim. Why these seven share it, and how Deuteronomy 2 sorts the post-Flood names, is on Races of Giants.

Hebrew avvim (עַוִּים). Deuteronomy 2:23 puts them in villages as far as Gaza, and says the Caphtorim, who came out from Caphtor, destroyed them and settled in their place. Caphtor is the origin the prophets give the Philistines (Amos 9:7; Jeremiah 47:4). Joshua 13:3 still lists the Avvim inside the territory of the five Philistine lords, as land not yet taken.

Unlike the Emim and the Zamzummim, that verse does not call the Avvim tall, and it does not call them Rephaim. They are in this seven because Deuteronomy 2 sets them with those displaced peoples, in the same passage as the giant notes. The stature is an association from the chapter, not a statement the text makes about them.
