A description rather than a species, and worth holding at arm’s length for that reason. The modern phrase comes from a datable place — Raymond Moody’s Life After Life (1975), which named the radiant figure recurring in near-death accounts “the being of light.” Theosophy got there earlier with the Solar Angels and the “Lords of the Flame”; contactee literature describes luminous humanoids this app also files under Nordic and non-human intelligence.

The ancient material is not the same claim, and the difference matters. Islam states a substance — angels are created from nūr (light), the jinn from smokeless fire (Sahih Muslim). The Hebrew Bible only ever states an appearance — lightning, burning coals, lamps of fire, polished brass (Ezekiel 1:13–14; Daniel 10:6). And the Hebrew saraph is a burning one, which puts fire at the top of the hierarchy where Islam puts light. Two traditions, the same two substances, sorted in opposite directions.

In scripture, luminosity behaves like a condition, not a material: Moses’ face shone by proximity and faded (Exodus 34:29–35); it is promised to the righteous who do not yet have it (Daniel 12:3; Matthew 13:43). And the tradition puts a warning beside it — “Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14), while Lucifer means light-bearer and is carried in this app as a fallen former Seraph.
