The -im is the ordinary Hebrew masculine plural, the same ending as on Seraphim and Cherubim. Why these seven share it, and how Deuteronomy 2 sorts the post-Flood names, is on Races of Giants.

Hebrew zamzummim (זַמְזֻמִּים). Ammon’s name for the people who held their land before them (Deuteronomy 2:20–21): a people great, and many, and tall as the Anakim, and accounted Rephaim. Ammon displaced them.

Genesis 14:5 names the Zuzim in Ham, in the same eastern campaign that hits the Rephaim and the Emim. The text never says the two names are one people. The usual reading treats them as one, from the geography and from Deuteronomy’s note that Ammon’s former giants were Rephaim. This catalog follows that reading and keeps Zuzim as an alias. The name is often heard as imitative, a buzzing or a murmuring, or tied to zamam, “to plot.” Neither etymology is stated in the verse.
