Goliath
← Named Giants · Scripture · Glossary: Named giants
Philistine champion of Gath who challenged the armies of Israel for forty days and was killed by David with a sling and stone. His armour is itemised in detail: a bronze helmet, a coat of mail weighing 5,000 shekels, and a spear whose head weighed 600 shekels of iron. The two surviving height traditions differ by three feet, which is the clearest single illustration of why this section records stature as *reported* rather than as fact.
Named in the Hebrew Bible or New Testament canon. Heights are given only where the text gives them, in the text’s own units.
Record
Stature is recorded as the source states it, in that source’s own units. It is not a verified measurement unless this record sits in the Modern documented record class.
