The same name, two different anatomies
The Egyptian sphinx is a lion’s body with a human head. Four limbs, no wings. It does not violate the limb constraint at all. A human head on a lion is a mismatch of parts, but it is not an impossible count.
The Greek sphinx — the one at Thebes — adds wings to the same body. That makes six, and it fails.
This matters because it shows the axis is discriminating rather than simply rejecting everything traditional. Run against the catalogue it sorts: Egyptian sphinx and phoenix pass, mermaid passes on limbs and fails elsewhere, and dragon, pegasus, griffin, centaur and Greek sphinx all fail the same way. A test that everything fails tells you nothing. This one does not.
